The Irish Clicker Centre is located in Kerry on the shores of Tralee Bay.
The purpose of the Centre is to develop and encourage clicker training
for horses in Ireland. We want to help people to learn the skills to work
with their horses in a fun and positive atmosphere. Clicker training offers
the opportunity of a happy learning experience for both horses
and humans.
Clicker Training refers to a new method of teaching animals using a 'yes
answer' signal. The signal tells your horse when he has done something
right. It is immediately followed by a reward, something your horse will
actively work for. The 'click' in clicker training refers to the sound made
by a small plastic noise-maker. If you've ever played the childrens game
where you were directed to a place or object by a friend saying you were
warm or cold, then you have an idea of the basics of clicker training. The
main difference is that we set up our horses so that we can always get a
warm to hot (i.e. 'yes') answer.
